Excellence in Government

Saturday, 19 December 2009 20:33

Peter Zinno’s mission is simple. He believes that the present government is on an unsustainable fiscal path and feels the 4th District needs to elect a congressional representative to reset the course.

One of his favorite quotes is FDR’s, “Don’t tell me it can’t be done.” He has used that quote as a mantra throughout his celebrated teaching and coaching career where he has helped countless students beat the odds and achieve their true potential. Zinno plans to translate his ardent pursuit of excellence in education and athletics to government.

After retiring from teaching in 2001 and coaching in 2005, Zinno has returned to his first career – local politics. For the past few years he has been attending many civic and political functions within the 4th Congressional District to get a better understanding of the current concerns and needs of the community. This pursuit led Zinno to the 2008 Republican National Convention and landed him a part in the documentary, Poliwood.

Since the last presidential election, Zinno has firmly believed what Ronald Reagan said of the Republican Party in the 80s, “We may be fewer in numbers than there have ever been but we carry the message they are waiting for.” He also believes that labels are not contributing anything positive to the current political environment. Whether you are a Democrat voting Republican or vice versa, Zinno feels real action is what’s important. He also feels that the current divisive party politics must stop in order for new solutions to be developed to address the current economic crisis our community faces.

Zinno’s most recent political success was running the 2009 campaign for Judge Stephen Bucaria, presiding New York State Supreme Court Justice. He was greatly encouraged by all the local political support he has personally received and now looks forward to his own Congressional campaign.

Following are some specific concerns Zinno has for his district that he vows to follow through on once he is elected. He would love to hear your opinion and also invites you to keep checking back to PeterZinno.com for frequent updates.

- "Nation Building" should begin in the United States of America.

- We are in dire need of a real energy policy . . . not one based on OPEC oil.

- The same regulatory infrastructure remains in place from the previous administration regarding Wall Street and we can't afford another failed four years of federal government policies.

- The unemployment rate rose from 7.2% in January of 2009 to 10.2% in October with almost half of the 7.2 million jobs lost during the recession occurring since the President Obama’s inauguration. In order to create jobs we must:

      - Reduce the payroll tax.
      - Give incentives to small businesses.
      - Reduce the corporate tax rate.
      - Abolish the "death" tax.

Zinno believes that these good ‘ol time-tested conservative principles that we haven’t had in more than a decade are just what we need to begin to address the urgent economic situation with we are faced. Born To Run

As the son of first-generation Italian Americans, Peter Zinno has been campaigning for others for decades. He was born of humble beginnings and as a young child shared a two-room apartment with his parents, the late Ralph and Jean, and his two sisters, Rosemarie and Donna, in Corona, Queens. After his family moved to the suburbs, his loving parents took in an abandoned toddler named Roy Wachtel who became an honorary member of the family. As a young boy, Zinno watched his dedicated father faithfully report to work every day as a mail carrier and his loyal mother care for her growing family with admiration and an eye towards his own future commitments.
